Maastricht is a lovely city. This city is also known as the place where The Maastricht Treaty was signed.
“The Maastricht Treaty (formally, the Treaty on European Union or TEU) undertaken to integrate Europe was signed on 7 February 1992 by the members of the European Community in Maastricht, Netherlands. On 9–10 December 1991, the same city hosted the European Council which drafted the treaty. Upon its entry into force on 1 November 1993 during the Delors Commission, it created the European Union and led to the creation of the single European currency, the euro. The Maastricht Treaty has been amended by the treaties of Amsterdam, Nice and Lisbon.” Wikipedia
I enjoy going to Maastricht once or twice a month, in winter these trips depend on the conditions of the roads around where I live… Shopping possibilities, quality of almost everything is better compared to the town nearby. I speak the language; feel happy being among my own people. Thanks to the Euro our lives have become easier: only one purse, one Euro!
There are many historical places to visit. With guided walking tours or open-deck bus tours one can explore this beautiful city. On the River Meuse or Maas there are also scheduled boat tours I love…
Here are a few photos, I have many more…
